Many of the Italian recipes on this site fit what is known as the Mediterranean diet. In addition, some are traditionally vegetarian. I’ve broken out vegetarian as a special category and define it as simply no meat – that means no mammals or birds but can include fish/seafood or animal by-products like eggs/cheese/dairy. Seafood and poultry have their own categories.

Vegan involves finer distinctions and is defined differently by different people so I’ll leave that to the individual.
